Tell Us How Severe Weather Events Affect You: Planning for Climate Change Together
Overview
Our weather is changing due to climate change, and this is causing more flooding, hotter days, wildfires and stronger storms.
For example, in Greater Manchester, some neighbourhoods have experienced flooding after heavy rain, which has affected people’s homes and wellbeing.
Also, we have experienced more severe heatwaves which can affect our health and wellbeing and cause wider impacts on travel and our economy.
We are making a plan to help Greater Manchester cope with risks such as flooding and heatwaves, called the Greater Manchester Climate Resilience Strategy. This is to help us stay safe and protect our homes and communities.
The biggest risks facing Greater Manchester due to climate change are flooding, extreme heat, major storms and wildfires, so this survey will focus mostly on those. However, please tell us about others if they are more relevant to you.
The following are definitions to some terms which might be unfamiliar:
Climate impacts and risks are the problems climate change can cause for our homes, health, jobs, and communities, such as heat stress and flooded streets.
Climate adaptation and resilience mean getting ready for climate change by making plans, taking action, and working together so that we can cope better and keep our communities safe and strong.
