Dowson Road Survey

Closes 21 Oct 2025

Opened 16 Sep 2025

Overview

Consultation: Proposed new Dowson Road Puffin Crossing

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and partners are investing in GM’s roads and public transport network to enable safer, more reliable, and efficient journeys and to support the ongoing delivery of the Bee Network – an integrated transport network for our city-region and its people.

Together, TfGM and Tameside Council are developing proposals to improve bus, walking, wheeling and cycling journeys for people along the 330-bus route between Ashton and Stockport.  By improving infrastructure to enable more people to use the bus and active travel, we can also help reduce congestion for other road users.

One proposal that TfGM and Tameside Council would like your views on is the introduction of a new pedestrian crossing on Dowson Road, Hyde. In summary, the scheme proposal would involve:

  • Installation of a new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing (puffin crossing)
  • Widening and resurfacing of the adjacent footway
  • Relocation of the adjacent bus stop
  • Relocation of the existing traffic island
  • Removal of and relocation of some existing guardrail
  • Removal of approximately 9 existing on street car parking bays to facilitate the new crossing and relocated bus stop

Why your views matter

The most successful schemes are informed by local businesses, residents, and road users. As such, between 16th September to 21st October 2025, please help us by providing feedback on the crossing proposal via our survey.

Supplementary Information

The key information about the proposals is within this survey, but if you wish to access supplementary information on the proposals this can be found at the below webpage:
