What is being proposed?

Map-based site plan of the proposed Hindley Travel Hub located west of Hindley Station. The new travel hub includes three parking areas providing 65, 26 and 9 standard car parking spaces. Five accessible parking bays are positioned closest to the pedestrian route to the station. Six electric vehicle charging spaces are provided, including four within the main car park and two accessible charging spaces near the station access route. Three motorcycle parking spaces and cycle parking are also included. Pedestrian access is provided through new footways highlighted in purple, linking all parking areas to Hindley Station. A proposed covered walkway connects the travel hub to the station entrance, and an additional pedestrian connection is shown along Railway Street. New crossing points are provided within the site. A pick-up and drop-off facility is located adjacent to the station access route. Landscaping is shown along the eastern edge of the site. The plan also includes a proposed new access road to private land, and a Network Rail access point on the western side of the site. Nearby streets shown include Highfield Road, Ladies Lane, Railway Street and Ward Street, with Hindley Station located to the east of the travel hub.

The proposed changes would make Hindley station easier to reach and help people connect with onward journeys across Greater Manchester. These proposed changes include:

  • Expanding the existing park and ride next to Hindley station. Increasing parking capacity from 52 to around 111 spaces, including accessible parking.
  • Providing six electric vehicle charging bays, including accessible parking spaces.
  • Creating a dedicated pick-up and drop-off area with a seated waiting shelter.
  • Adding secure cycle parking for around 10 bikes.
  • Improving access between the station and car parks with a new accessible ramp linking to Platform 2 and the new lift.
  • Complementing the accessibility improvements already being delivered at Hindley station, including step-free access, which is expected to be completed in spring 2027.
